And, as history has shown countless times, as it is in contexts like these, of great social upheaval and political and military confrontation, in which great men with exceptional charisma are chosen to lead the masses.
As it couldn’t be another way, in the Republican ranks, there were men who in most cases, had no political or military preparation and had to fight for their ideals to the bitter end also becoming repositories of hope and the hope of an entire people.
Like Vicente Rojo, the man who designed the Ebro offensive, Jose Miaja responsible for the heroic defence of Madrid, Durruti, the anarchist leader who became a symbol for an entire people or Cipriano Mera, the bricklayer turned into one of the military leaders of the republic.
Men at the end of the day who were forced to get on the history train. |
